To clarify drought-stress-induced molecular changes in herbaceous peony
(Paeonia lactiflora), we construct small RNA libraries by high-throughput sequencing. A total
of 58 known miRNAs and 83 novel miRNAs are identified. Among them, 61 miRNAs are
differentially expressed. In addition, differentially expressed miRNAs predict 122 target
genes, 68 of which are annotated. When combined with gene ontology enrichment and Kyoto
Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis, 35 miRNAs and 67 target transcripts
that might be associated with drought stress are detected. Expression analysis of some
miRNAs are performed, which is consistent with the results of targets of transcription factors
and functional genes. These results provide a better understanding of the roles of miRNAs
under drought stress in herbaceous peony.
